TGIM – Avoid Putting All Your Marketing Eggs in 1 Basket

Thank God it’s Monday Tuesday! Was this the best Resurrection weekend ever? As Christians, I know we shouldn’t invest too much time & energy in Easter or such pagan holidays, but how can anyone ignore all that delicious candy, or those cute Easter eggs?

1 Reason Why You Should Avoid Putting All Your Marketing Eggs in 1 Basket…

I heard of a heart breaking marketing endeavor faux pas that took place thisĀ  past weekend nearby. A newly planted church made of brilliantly gifted young adults, let’s call it “Las Churchas Plantes” invested about $1,000.00 of God’s money into a print mail marketing campaign targeting two popular markets: Easter & Children.

While $1,000 is certainly not a lot of money to some, it is to many, specially a young church. I can only imagine how troubling it was to watch the worship band and pastors keep staring at the doors, some biting their nails, others pacing.

Turns out the ROI on Easter Sunday was apparently 0.

No one new showed up on Easter Sunday, so I hear, though 4 cars did pull up in the parking lot, but then drove off. For those who attended, it seemed there were less people there than previous weeks… How could the BIGGEST Sunday of the year be such a flop?

Certainly God’s plan is for a miracle to happen before next service focusing on Children, since they can’t drive themselves to church! Because the church’s marketing pieces were not designed with conversion in mind , they’ll need divine intervention to fill those pews come Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning.

Needing A Miracle!

A miracle is what it’s going to take, since the beautiful 2-sided flyer for both the Easter & Children’s Day sheep were funneled to the church’s homepage instead of a landing page. Traffic to the web site indeed increased, but has not yet converted. It can’t convert, it’s just not designed to convert is all!

My hope and prayer is, the beautifully designed printed piece mailed via the postal service will bear a harvest in tune with God’s plan, not man’s.

Has God put you in charge of a Project involving Marketing?

Do the right thing. Take a tiny portion of your budget and invest it wisely with a marketing consultant with no skin in your game. Typically, hire a consultant that CAN’T implement the solutions he advises (unlike me, I am an implementation expert!). This way you know for certain you hired the right guy or gal to advise on your business. No skin often translates in no lies…
