Top 10 SEO Don’ts for 2014

When it comes to SEO, a bulletproof technique considered “white hat” today might turn out “gray hat” tomorrow, and eventually make it on Google’s “black hat” list.

A huge problem with today’s internet marketing trends is… they work!

That’s the issue all search engines are struggling with. Intended to measure popularity according to a “living” formula, search engine algorithms are now faced with strategically crafted funnels through which qualified, interested leads are harvested.

xTo be successful on Google, Yahoo and Bing and achieve top rankings across the board, you will need to abide by an ever changing formula. What’s tricky about adhering to search engine policies is that terminology or methods are constantly evolving, making research a huge part of SEO.

Here are things you should avoid on your road to SEO success:

1. Don’t Do It Yourself! The time you’ll spend researching SEO will keep you from successfully running & managing your business, fulfilling existing accounts & relationships or pursuing new customers.

2. Don’t Delegate SEO Jobs to Foreigners! Most foreign contractors don’t speak the language and their efforts often produce a harvest well short of potential.

3. Don’t be Cheap! White hat SEO costs more because it’s worth more. Cutting corners with SEO will produce results accordingly. Remember, cheap ain’t good, and good ain’t cheap!

4. Don’t Procrastinate! It’s very likely your competitors are trying to take your business away while you slack off! When it comes to SEO, the worst thing you can do is nothing!

5. Don’t Fall for Guarantees! Instead focus on results. Countless companies or individuals will make promises they simply cannot keep, claiming they can position you at the top of Google.

6. Don’t Rely on a Single Opinion! The truth of the matter is, no one knows everything (except yours truly, of course! ;) To ensure maximum SEO ROI, get a second opinion, even if you have to hire and pay a consultant, In the end, you’ll reap rewards 10 fold,

7. Don’t Go Black Hat! Because once you go black, you never go back! Once you get flagged for violating search engine policies, climbing back up the ranking ladder is nearly impossible.

8. Don’t Taunt Search Engines via Spontaneous Mass SEO! While endeavoring in SEO is key to success, avoid going from zero exposure to thousands of links in 24 hours as this will get search engine attention you do not want. When it comes to SEO, slow & steady is key to success.

9. Don’t Bait! Link baiting works, but eventually, as other irrelevant linkers take & replicate your bait beyond normality, you’ll be placed on search engine black lists.

10. Don’t Spam! I can’t stress how imperative this is. Spamming will also produce results, however when you get black flagged, you’ll regret taking a short cut and your efforts will be in vain.

To be effective, SEO should be ongoing.

To maximize return on your efforts, all you need to do is refrain from doing any of the above and you should do well.
