The New Google Privacy Policy Exposed!!!

Another spectacular week-end gives way to yet another busy work week, praise God!

Did you hear as of March 1st, Google will boost its data mining and processing capabilities thereby maximizing their use of information gathered while you are using their services. Mainly, Google reports, the new privacy policy will be mainly used in advertising endeavors.

This change in itself is no big deal, since countless other web sites and social networks have been busy capitalizing on such data harvesting for years.

I can deal with Google noticing I’m looking for a part for my aging BMW, then to better cater to my needs, I magically find BMW related parts/offers in Gmail and YouTube.

But, if I send an otherwise confidential e-mail and Google’s tracking system pulls “sensitive information” from that communication to customize my shopping experience based on the private information, I am not so cool with that.

Because computers cannot express discretion, or understand the intricacies of confidentiality, they should not be trusted with reading, processing, storing or using e-mail messages, confidential or not.

On The Flip Side

The flip side is, Google owns it all. They own the search engine, phone number, email accounts and webmaster tools.  Everyone has been freeloading off Google for so long, I say it’s about time they capitalize BIG on the years of data collected.

I for one don’t use Gmail much, and make sure to log out of Google and in some cases use private proxies when I need to surf incognito… ;)
