Succulent Toasty Hot Dog Topped with Quebec Cole Slaw and French Fries

Wow! What can I say… Last week the girls and I visited Coney Island Drive-Inn in Brooksville, which inspired me to cook up some authentic Montreal toasties topped with Quebec coleslaw and home made french fries.

The result?

Are you kidding? See for yourself! I wish I could inject smell-a-vision or cyber tasting… These were the best toasties I’ve had in a decade!!! I give praises to God for providing me with A) The Ingredients to Make These Succulent Hot Dogs, B) The Savvy Needed to Make These Montreal Toasties and Perfectly Cooked Hand Cut French Fries and, C) The Time Required to Endeavor in Such an Opulent Meal.

Montreal Style Toasty Hot Dog Topped with Quebec Cole Slaw and French Fries

Here’s my proprietary recipe for delicious, mouth watering Montreal Coleslaw:

  • 2 Cups Shredded Cabbage Mix
  • 2 Tbsp Canola Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1/2 Tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 Tsp Accent (MSG)
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste

For best results, mix and let sit for 1 hour. Drain excess liquid, then serve on its own or, atop toasties or steamies hot dogs… Enjoy! :)

  1. Great shot, how do you get the fries looking to sharp in the photo? They look so real, almost feels like I could grab one and dip it in the catchup!! What kind of camera do you use for your photos on your blog, I’m impressed by their quality. Another thing, what’s a toasty?

    1. Thanks! For this shot I used a old Nikon D50, made sure I had plenty of light, hence the shot outdoors and sharpened it slightly in Photoshop.

A toasty is a hot dog in a toasted bun, basically buttered bun toasted and pressed down slightly in a pan until golden brown, unlike steamies that are steamed to mouth watering goodness. Both are great, but toasties are more receptive to the french fries topping.

  2. salut Daniel, is this recipe from a Montreal hot dog shop or your own creation? I want as authentic as possible (think Decarie Hot dogs or La Belle Province). thanks!
