Proposals, Phone Calls and Toddler Tears

Most days, unlike today, I spend the bulk of the day writing proposals and/or on the phone either consulting, advising or convincing potential clients can’t afford to not hire me.

Today was slightly different…

A good friend of ours had to have emergency surgery. She desperately needed us to look after her two boys, a violent, testy 4 year old and needy toddler. While my wife Elizabeth and I knew we were in for a rough day, we had no idea how challenging it would be to look after 5 kids for 8 hours.

I am blessed to have a home office where I can typically do most my work. Today my work load consisted of writing proposals while making a few phone calls ,and designing a public speaking eBook. All of it came to a screeching halt when my wife quietly opened my office door asking for help putting our guests down for a nap.

Our toddler Trinity needs a quick story and a hug, then she’s out for 2 hours. Jeremiah and Dillon, well, whatever they needed today I couldn’t come up with. What usually takes 5 minutes with Trinity turned into an hour of screaming and kicking, crying and whining. Eventually Elizabeth put in a movie for them and I was back to work, thankfully so!

Working from home has its advantages. Today there were some deffinite disadvantages. For a short time this afternoon, between phone calls and proposals, I sure missed my downtown office.
