What Is Ripple

Ripple prices have skyrocketed in value since the last few months of 2017, sparking a worldwide frenzy among smart investors.

But what exactly is Ripple?

First, you should know Ripple (XRP) is far more than a new Bitcoin competitor…

While it wasn’t released until 2012, Ripple is actually older than Bitcoin. The original version of the company was created in 2004, according to Bitcoin Magazine.

Unlike Bitcoin and other digital currencies, Ripple’s cryptocurrency has been adopted by banks and other financial institutions. Those companies believe Ripple’s system offers both better prices and is more secure than other digital currencies, including Bitcoin.

The Ripple network allows users to send, receive, and hold any currency in a decentralized way. The company is cash-flow positive and holds a vast store of XRP, which it periodically releases into the market.

While Ripple value is certainly exploding, buying Ripple continues to be far more difficult than Bitcoin, Litecoin and other cryptocurrency.

To “buy” Ripple digital coins, you must first own other cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin or Litecoin. Only a few exchanges offer Ripple, and most of them are not designed for novice traders.

Leading digital currency exchanges include Kraken and Poloniex, among others.
