Throwback Friday – My First Car

Another glorious work week comes to an end at Cybergenica & Glorious Media, and with a ton of homesteading, gardening & farming planned for Saturday and Sunday, I’m not entirely sure I’m looking forward to the weekend…

Today as a part of my throwback series, I wanted to share a 45+ year old photograph of yours truly in my very first car: A chopped Mini Cooper…

Daniel St.Pierre in his first Austin Mini
This was shot in front of our Ste-Flavie, Quebec home right across the street from l’Autodrome Ste-Flavie, my dad’s 1/3 mile oval dirt track. There I am, sitting on an empty wooden case of Coke bottles softened by a homemade pillow sewed by my mom Marie-Ange, ready to drive across the road and on the track…

Barely tall enough to see over the steering wheel, I would pull/push the manual choke knob to either accelerate or slow down around dad’s track, the only place where I was allowed to drive. Duh! I was only 4 years old!

Too young for kindergarten yet old enough to work, my job on race day was to follow my dad in the water truck as it circled the track, to flatten and even out the mud created by the mix of water and used motor oil.

I’ll never forget those Sundays and the look of pure amazement on people’s faces during race day intermission as I drove by the stands all by myself. Thanks for the memories dad!
