We Survived Hurricane Irma…

hurricane irma 2017Summer 2017 ended with a solar eclipse, two major storms and, a broken spirit.

On the horizon is yet another end times prediction, this one on September 23rd, exactly two weeks from today when stars will align according to biblical prophecy:

And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth.
(Revelation 12:1–2)

Back to the broken spirit…

When I watched my wife, four daughters, recently acquired dog and kitten, and our most valuable belongings walk out the door as hurricane Irma drove near, I became angry at God.

I took my focus off His unconditional love, amazing grace and abundance of mercy. I sinned against the ONE who loves me most.

As I manned the fort, and stayed behind to do whatever I could to save our home, mend a broken window, even free a stuck animal or worse, have to pull a trigger to end its pain.

My lack of trust in the Lord became a beacon for my feet, bitterness the compass that took me to anger, and eventually destruction from within.

When the storm had passed, my heart grew even more angry at God. Why? Even though I had prepared for the aftermath, there’s one thing I forgot to factor in my prepping: A spiritual survival plan!

Without a spiritual plan in a survival type situation, I failed God horribly. I also failed my family, my friends and my neighbors by taking on a load I could not carry. More importantly, I invested all my energy, time and money in preparing, leaving God out of the equation.

Today, thanks to the love and support of my wife and children, I hit the reset button on my focus meter and started the day immersed in Jesus, in worship, prayer and gratitude.

Our generator humming and powering a third of our home, internet service back up, cool pool to jump into when the heats gets unbearable, and without A/C it don’t take too long, I am glad to report at least one good thing that happened thanks to hurricane Irma: I grew closer to God.

Later, on our way into town, we came across the following…
