What is Stratfor, Who was behind the Stratfor Hack and Why you should Care

First and foremost, let me be clear and up front about the group known as Anonymous. The group, its members either official or unofficial, and copycats are to be feared by anyone relying on any type of interactive technology. I fear them, here’s why you should too.

Basically Charlie, if your name or personal information is on a computer anywhere in the world, and this computer is connected somehow to the internet, or able to be remotely controlled, then your information is doomed – period.

Sooner or later you should count on being the victim of a hacker.

My advice?

Be nice and get along with people. Don’t live your life making enemies or taking advantage of others. In 2012, it’ll be easier than ever to smear someone or tarnish reputations anonymously.

Stratfor Website Hacked, by Anonymous
The Stratfor website continued to be down today, nearly a week after it was hacked by Anonymous.

Take a look at Stratfor, a Texas based strategic think tank who pride themselves in Internet Security. According to NPR, “86,594 email addresses, of which 47,680 are unique were swiped” from their servers.

On a security level, “44,188 Encrypted Passwords, of which roughly 50% easily cracked. 73.7% of decrypted passwords were weak.”

As for financial information, “50,277 Unique Credit Card Numbers were swiped, of which 9,651 are NOT expired.”

Why Should You Care about This Hack?

If Stratfor, Bank of America, Paypal, even the CIA cannot prevent hackers from swiping otherwise secure information, why bother trying to defend ourselves against malicious intent?

Right. Don’t bother. If hackers ever want YOUR information, there’s nothing you can do to stop them. Forget even trying to fight a battle, they’ll empty your bank accounts, wipe out your credit cards, turn off your home alarm while they’re watching you using your own computers, microphones and webcams. The only safe place is off the grid, armed with the mighty word of God and a 12 gauge sawed off shotgun (for hunting :).

So be nice and live according to the word of God. Love your neighbor as you do yourself, but love God more. Live a humble life and strive to be remembered as a giver. Then I’m confident Anonymous will leave you and yours alone…
