Throwback Friday – 130Mph on the Autobahn

I consider myself blessed beyond measure in many areas of my life. These days, Elizabeth and I own two Dodge Caravans and a Honda CBR600 motorcycle. The vans are not only paid for, they double as billboards for Christ when we set out various school related trips, to the beach, Disney, the zoo, etc.

Since 2003, our other vehicles included other Dodge Caravans, a few convertibles, a 1968 Olds Delmont & a SAAB 900, as well as our beloved BMW 540i. Indeed the ultimate driving machine, this car was not only the safest, fastest and most comfortable car we ever owned, it was the outright best ride, period.

This week’s throwback takes us to Europe, back in 1998, somewhere between Paris, France and Berlin, Germany. I had flown to Charles de Gaulle Airport in France where I rented a Mercedes Benz for the few months I was planning on touring Europe.

I shot these photos while driving, one using a tripod and timer, the others while holding the camera. Needless to say trying to get a steady shot holding the steering wheel with one hand and the camera with the other, while LEGALLY driving over 130Mph posed some minute challenges. Did you know it’s true what they say about German autobahns? There are NO speed limits!!!

The rented Benz was a swell ride but nothing compared to our BMW 540i. Back then, I never imagined there would be a day when God would bless me with a car that’s truly beyond luxury. I invite you to see the bimmer for yourself in the “photos” section of this blog.

I give all the praises to God on this one. Back in 1998, I was lost and now I’m found. I was indeed blind but now I see. I see His glory, His grace. I am in no way deserving of God’s blessings in my life.
