How Do I Find Out if I Have a Keylogger on my PC?

Keyloggers are stealth programs that record some or all activity on a computer, in most cases without the user knowing he or she is being watched. Keyloggers are typically adware programs installed as part of a computer virus, to steal personal information, or as a readily available surveillance program are used to keep a close eye on employees, a spouse or child.

I have used some type of keyloggers in the past to catch an employee as he violated company policy stealing software from the online vault. It turns out our star coder (and previous employee of the month) was also a Napster guru, illegally sharing over 160,000 MP3 songs using company computers and bandwidth.

The software I used at the time (PC Anywhere) allowed me to watch his computer screen in real time. It also had a record feature which came in handy when I needed irrefutable proof our “top” man was indeed a thief.

One morning I sat at my computer with 2 other senior staff members and watch our “guru” in action just across the hall. Like a rat, peeking over his computer screen every 30 second watching out for incoming staff, he violated rule after rule, and used company resources without a care in the world… Until he saw the recording for himself.

“What can I say, you got me!” he said. “Wow, you really got me!”

He shook his head, cracked a smile and asked if he could leave. I told him no, the police were on their way and he would likely be arrested and interrogated if not charged for his Napster scam. I informed him I had no choice in the matter since he used company resources to conduct criminal activities.

So he ran.

The truth is I never called the authorities. I didn’t want my company mixed up in such a mess.

what’s the Point of this Story?

There is a 18% chance you use a computer with a keylogger recording every you type, or click on or see online. The good news is there are countless ways to detect a keylogger.

I use KL-Detector-Pro, a powerful free keylogger detector that “listens” to your hard disk as you’re working for any abnormal activity, such as a keylogger recording strokes on your keyboard, or clicks of your mouse, etc.

Download KL-Detector-Pro here.

Instructions: Save the Zip file “KL-Detector-Pro.zip” linked above to your computer, then Unzip. There is only file therein named “KL-Detector-Pro.exe” which I recommend you scan for viruses, better safe than sorry! I did not create the file but I do trust its integrity.

Once you have Unzipped and scanned the “KL-Detector-Pro.exe” program file, run it and follow the simple 3 step process. Voila! You will now find out if anyone has been watching you…

In the event you find a keylogger on your computer, remember to call on me for help get rid of it!
